Henna paste comes from a plant (lawsonia inermis) which is used to create a dye that, when applied to skin, can leave a stain lasting up to several weeks. Stains can vary from a bright orange to a deep brown.
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS BLACK HENNA!--Any product claiming to be black henna contains a chemical called PPD which is extremely harmful to skin and can potentially cause severe burns, blisters, or even cancer.
Henna paste that is mass produced and sold on shelves in any store is not 100% natural henna and also contains dangerous cancer causing chemicals in it. Natural, safe henna has a short shelf life of only about 1-2 days before the dye level begins to decrease, therefore any paste that is not sold frozen from a reputable henna supplier is not safe. While it may not cause any noticable damage, it is still very harmful.
